Modifiers for F&B
Modifiers are customisable add-on options that can be attached to any menu item, allowing guests to personalise their order and allowing you to charge for those customisations
How Modifiers Work
When a modifier is selected during order creation, it is added to the item's base price:
Example: Burger with extras
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Burger (base) | 40 AED |
| + Extra Cheese | +5 AED |
| + Avocado | +7 AED |
| Total | 52 AED |
Note: Modifiers can be free (0 AED), useful for options like "no sugar" or "dine in vs. takeaway" that don't carry an extra charge.
Where Modifiers Are Visible
| Surface | What You See |
|---|---|
| POS Terminal (SmartPOS) | A modifier selection screen opens automatically when a staff member selects a product with modifiers. Price updates in real time. |
| Widescreen POS (Tablet) | Same logic: a modifier pop-up or side panel opens. Staff selects options, and the order line reflects the updated total. |
| QR Menu (Guest View) | Guests can see available add-ons and prices for each item in read-only format. Guests cannot place orders from the QR Menu; this is informational only. |
| Receipts | Modifiers appear as a combined total per line item (e.g., "Latte +oat milk = 16 AED"). They do not appear as separate line items on the receipt. |
| Sales Reports | Modifier revenue is included in product totals on the dashboard and reports. |
Setting Up Modifiers
Modifiers are created and managed in the Merchant Portal → Catalogue → Modifiers section.
- Create a modifier: Click Create Modifier and set a name, price (0 AED or any positive value), and VAT if applicable.
- Assign to products: Inside the product editing screen, use the Modifiers (Add-ons) section to browse and attach modifiers to any product. One modifier can be assigned to multiple products.
- Done: Modifiers appear on the POS and QR Menu automatically for products they're assigned to.
Quick-create shortcut: When editing a product, if the modifier you need doesn't exist yet, click "Create Modifier" directly from the product screen. The new modifier is created and assigned to that product in one step.
To create multiple modifiers under the same modifier set:
- Go to Modifieres, click Create Modifier
- Enter the modifier set name
- Add the first modifier name and its price
- Click "Enter" to add a new modifier to the same set
