Digital Receipts is a feature of Fortis SmartPOS, included in the subscription. After a sale, the terminal displays a QR code. The customer scans it and receives a clean digital receipt, either through the merchant's WhatsApp or as a web page. When delivered via WhatsApp, the customer's name and number are automatically saved to the merchant's customer database.
How digital receipts work?
After payment, the terminal shows a QR code. The customer scans it with their phone. What happens next depends on whether the merchant has connected his WhatsApp or not, through the Merchant Portal:
- WhatsApp connected: The scan opens the merchant's WhatsApp with a pre-filled message. The customer taps Send, and Fortis instantly replies with a link to their receipt. The merchant captures the customer's name and phone number, and a customer profile is created under "Customers" tab on the Merchant Portal(source: WhatsApp).
- WhatsApp not connected: The scan opens the receipt web page directly. The customer views and downloads it. No customer data is captured.
Note: There is no auto-send. The customer always initiates the flow by scanning the QR code after the sale.
How to connect your Business WhatsApp?
To use the WhatsApp flow, the merchant connects their existing WhatsApp Business account to Fortis, keeping their existing number and chat history intact.
- Merchant requests it in Merchant Portal → Settings → Receipts → click "Connect WhatsApp".
- Fortis sends an onboarding URL to connect Merchant’s WhatsApp Business Account to Fortis
- Once connected, the terminal QR routes customers to WhatsApp.
Consent: The QR screen informs customers that their details will be stored and shared with the merchant and Fortis to send the receipt via WhatsApp. Scanning is the customer's opt-in.

What's on the Receipt
A tax-compliant simplified invoice with the same data as the printed POS receipt: merchant name, address, TRN, order number, line items, VAT breakdown, total, payment method, and the merchant's brand name.
The web receipt also offers a PDF download and can display the merchant's Instagram and Google review links.
Digital Receipts FAQs
Which products support E-Receipts?
All products that already provide a Printed Invoice, such as SmartPOS.
Does E-Receipts affect the merchant's existing WhatsApp account?
No. Fortis integrates using “Coexistence” mode, which works alongside the merchant's existing WhatsApp Business App. The merchant continues using WhatsApp as normal.
Are there limits on the number of WhatsApp receipts?
No limit for receipts sent in response to a customer message (inbound-triggered). Since receipts are replies to customer-initiated messages, they are not charged.
Does the cashier need to do anything?
No. The customer scans the QR code themselves after the sale.
What customer data does the merchant receive?
In the WhatsApp flow: the customer's name and phone number are saved as a customer profile with source “WhatsApp”.
Which languages are supported?
Receipt templates are currently available in English. Arabic support is coming soon.
Can the receipt show review links?
Yes. The web receipt can display the merchant's Instagram and Google review links.
What does E-Receipts cost the merchant?
Nothing extra, it is included in the Fortis SmartPOS subscription.
Is there an auto-send option?
No. The customer always initiates the flow by scanning the QR code. Meta charges for outbound messages but not for replies to incoming messages, so this design keeps the feature free.
